NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization)

NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) is a military defence alliance of currently 32 countries in Europe and North America, founded in 1949. Its core principle is mutual assistance: an armed attack against one member is considered an attack against all (Article 5). NATO coordinates joint defence measures, military cooperation, security policy and international stabilisation missions.
